Legal River is an online marketplace that empowers businesses to find the right lawyer. Businesses post their legal need and lawyers will respond to them through LegalRiver.com with a targeted advertisement including a brief personalized statement and their Legal River profile which includes all of their pertinent resume information. Legal River is currently helping businesses find the right lawyer in the following practice areas:

How is this service free to businesses?
Legal River is a free service for businesses. Legal River charges an advertising fee to lawyers to respond to issues postings. This helps ensure that lawyers who advertise through Legal River are truly interested and available to help businesses with their legal needs.

How does this whole thing work?
As a business in need of legal help, you visit Legal River and create a profile. From there you post your business’ legal need, which could be anything from the reading of a contract to help purchasing a new piece of property. Legal River will ask you specific questions to find out more about your legal need, and what you are looking for in a lawyer.
Your legal need will then be posted for lawyers to see [minus your business’ name and contact information]. Lawyers will read the details of your posting and decide whether or not they think they can assist you. If they would like to work with you, the lawyer will create an advertisement that explains why they are the right lawyer for your legal need. This advertisement will include the lawyer’s biography and estimated fee, along with a personalized message. Next, a business can review and compare these lawyer responses in a side-by-side format. Using this side-by-side comparison, a business can make the best decision as to which lawyer is the right lawyer for their legal need.
The lawyers will never contact you directly because they never learn your company’s name or contact information; it is up to you to reach out to them.

How do you choose which attorneys to allow on Legal River?
We only allow bar certified lawyers to join Legal River. As long as a lawyer is licensed and in good standing with their bar association, they are welcome to join. At Legal River we want to ensure that your business has a variety of lawyers to choose from and that you find the right lawyer for your legal needs.

Is there client-attorney confidentiality when I post my issue?
There is no client-lawyer confidentiality when you post your information. Legal River is not a law firm, and posting on Legal River does not constitute a Lawyer-Client relationship. However, Legal River will not reveal any of your contact information to lawyers. So when posting, give details of your case that you are comfortable posting, but be selective.

How are attorneys screened?
We screen lawyers by ensuring that they are licensed. We only allow bar certified lawyers that are in good standing with their bar association to join Legal River.

Are you choosing my attorney?
No, Legal River does not choose a lawyer for you. Nor do we choose the lawyers that respond to your posting. Legal River allows for lawyers to advertise to you after seeing your posting.
After you enter in details of your legal need, the information (minus all contact information) is posted for the lawyers on Legal River to see. Interested lawyers will reach out to you through our system. You will receive an email alert from Legal River when your posting has received a response. After getting responses from interested lawyers, it is up to you to decide which lawyers you want to retain, or which lawyers you would like to speak with before making a decision.
Legal River is not a referral system or a matching system. We believe that businesses can make the best possible decision in which lawyer to retain. Legal River simply provides businesses with the right information about interested and available layers to make that decision.

Can I find an attorney for a non-business need?
Unfortunately not. Legal River is committed to being a marketplace for businesses to find interested lawyers.

Is my business name or contact information posted for all attorneys to see?
No, your business’ name and contact information are never posted for attorneys to see. After you enter information about your legal need and the listing is published, the lawyers only see the details about your legal need and your company’s profile information, such as industry and company size (not your contact information). When lawyers respond to your issue they do so through Legal River’s platform. You will have all of the attorneys’ contact information and it will be up to you which lawyers you wish to reach out to and interview.

Why do you need my contact information?
The reason we still ask for your contact information is to ensure that we are getting legitimate posts from real businesses. We want to ensure that our lawyer members are not getting any unnecessary noise and that nothing is distracting them from helping real businesses.
